Why we like this productBreakdown
The Pop Up changes the game for day hunters by enabling them to carry a small, convenient, and lightweight bag that could easily convert into a heavy-duty load-hauling frame pack once they get an animal down. Mystery Ranch listened to consumer feedback about a need for more storage and developed the Pop Up 38 which is the largest Pop Up available. The Pop Up 38 frame "pops up" via telescopic stays that utilize trekking pole technology for greater strength and ease of use. This adjustable frame allows you to adjust it to a raised position which allows you to haul heavier loads more efficiently. It features a top-loading shroud and a full-length side zipper for access to the main compartment along with two zippered accessory compartments on the lid. The side water bottle pockets and compression straps can be used to securely carry tripods and trekking poles.

"I live in the south, so I don’t really need a backpack to pack my harvest out of the woods. But I am going on an Axis Deer hunt on Lanai Island and this pack seems to be a perfect fit for me!"
"Bought the pop up 38 and had it about a month and loved it. So did my son, he used it on hunt and well I bought a second mystery ranch pop up 38. It’s just an easy pack to run and is a real workhorse. Plenty of pockets and storage. Very easy to fit and feels secure even with a heavy load."
"Pack performed awesome. Used all through archery and into rifle season. The main pack was a little floppy if it wasn't completely full and the hip belt dug in a bit at first. Separately packed out 2 elk back quarters and it handled them like a dream, also the main pack material cleaned up fairly well after the pack out with just a little water and a brush."
"Amazing pack. Many people complain about the pack being loose on the frame or sloppy but Mystery Ranch always does opposite buckles on each side. Which has been handy for me in multiple situations (this pack and my Beartooth 80). Just run the two side straps to eachother rather than the buckles on the side of your pack if it is nearly empty. Can tighten it down so it isn’t sloppy. Have also utilized this for bow carry as well. Assume this is why they do the opposites but if it’s just a coincidence it still works."
"The reviews were good and the price was great."
"Okay so this review might not be as popular as all the other ones I have been reading but here it goes. First of all the construction and meat hauling capacity is not in question here. Those were the things I was looking for before I decided to make this purchase. BUT after receiving the pack and transferring my stuff for my old day pack I started to notice a few things that I didn't like about this pack. First of all there are really only two spaces to put any of your knick knacks, batteries, knives USB chargers, lights and all your little things that you might carry out on the field and those are on the top lid of the pack that cover the main compartment . First thing I notice is that if you have a few of those items they will be loose and they will be pulling your pack back and it doesn't matter how much you tighten the top straps the pack will be bouncing with the top heavy lid full of all your gadgets that you carry out to the field. And not only that it's just a big compartment with no subdivisions or anything to try to keep your stuff separated or organized. My second disappointment was that even if you fill your main compartment the top of the bag moves around no matter how much you pull on the side and top straps unless you put a jacket or something to fill the space between the bag and the frame. I understand that space was meant for the meat haul out but until you fill it, the bag will be loose. The only way I was able to make it move less was by overfilling the main compartment with my rain gear and a puffy jacket to try to get the straps tighten enough to keep the bag from moving and flopping around when you walk and all this movement from the bag and the top heavy lid creates unnecessary noise while hunting. I suppose I could use ziplocs bags and separate the stuff inside those big compartments to keep stuff from banging to each other but for a price tag this high I would have expected a bit more compartmentalization from it which was my mistake by not thinking ahead on the lack of compartments on this specific pack. Last thing I did not like was that the Velcro straps that hold the extra long straps needed for meet hauling are not attached to the strap itself and can very easily either get pulled or lost if not putting attention where you place them when you are strapping it all tight for a haul out. So that's my personal experience with this model. Will return back and keep searching for a pack that fits my personal needs. Rant done!"
"Only complaint about this pack is the price, but GoHunt has by far the better price."
"I used mystery ranch packs for years in the military, before retiring. I knew mystery ranch was a great product. From the moment I ordered my pack I received it in just a few working days. Great service!!"
"This pack is a sloppy POS! You can not tighten it up to the frame. It just flops around all day. In the videos I watched Eastman, Mystery Ranch and GoHunt. They must have add it stuffed with every pillow they could get. I have bought many packs that haven’t worked for me. I would sale them or trade them on eBay CL ect. But I can’t In good conscious pass this pack on to someone else. And don’t even get me started on Gohunts customer service. They said they would help if they could. And never called me back.! Perfect! And Mystery Ranch should be ashamed of tossing around the made in America BS. This pack was made in the Philippines . Do not buy!"
