Lightweight Hiking Shoes

Hiking shoes are generally lighter, more flexible, and less bulky than hiking boots. They often have a lower cut (around the ankle or mid-cut), making them more agile and comfortable for speed and mobility on less rugged terrain. Hiking boots are heavier, with higher ankle support, more durable materials, and better protection for rough, technical terrain or long-distance hiking with heavy loads.

It depends on the type of hunting. If you're planning on carrying a light load in fair weather, lightweight hiking shoes can be an excellent choice for their comfort and agility. However, if you're hunting in extreme conditions, more traditional hunting boots may be better suited.

Some lightweight hiking shoes are waterproof, but many are made with breathable, water-resistant materials (such as mesh or synthetic uppers) that allow for ventilation. Shoes with waterproof membranes like Gore-Tex offer protection in wet conditions, but keep in mind that waterproof shoes may be warmer and can trap moisture inside if they aren't well-ventilated.

Lightweight hiking shoes are durable for their intended purpose, but they may not last as long as heavier hunting boots, especially on rugged terrain. The materials used to reduce weight (like mesh uppers) may wear out faster than the thicker leather or synthetic materials found in traditional boots. However, if you primarily hike on well-maintained trails, lightweight shoes should hold up well for several seasons.
