The new 2020 version of the Metcalf takes the previous best-selling Mystery Ranch pack and adds some very functional features making the bag better than it ever was before. First and foremost the Metcalf is now on the Guide Light MT Frame which offers an improved waist belt and a slightly lighter frame. The Guide Light MT Frame also makes the Overload shelf easier to access. The bag itself has also undergone a couple of minor changes to increase functionality. One of these changes is that the full-length side zipper now runs outside of the side pocket making it easier to access gear at the very bottom of your pack. The other change is that now the Metcalf has two open-topped side pockets rather than just one. This is a great improvement because it allows you to carry your rifle or tripod on either side of your pack. The 2020 Metcalf is still the all-around workhorse that its predecessor was and is guaranteed to be a favorite among hunters looking for versatility and all-around utility.

Awesome backpack

Love everything about this pack. Fits well, easy to hike around all day with, and the room is amazing!

Molly panel

I Bought this pack for a 6 day Elk hunt that I was going on. I as lucky enough to get a elk and hauling a load was fine. Worked as expected. My problem with the pack is that there no good way to strap my bow to the back of it that I found. A molly panel would be a great addition to it. I did search you tube reviews and never found anybody explaining how they do it. Other than that. A good decent pack.

Fantastic Pack

Purchased this pack in anctipation of a self supported backcountry elk hunt. I actually purchased a Horn Hunter pack and returned it for this. Glad I made that decision. So far I've used it on a couple of scouting trips and I can say its an extremely comfortable and well thought out pack. It fit comfortably right out of the package with no real need for break in time. The way the straps are positioned on the pack, it really helps to suck the weight tight to your back. The straps all have velcro ends so you can wrap them up and not have them slapping around. There are not many pockets for accessories, but the trade off is you have a huge main compartment space to work with. The subalpine optifade goes nicely with my realtree edge clothing. I haven't gotten a chance to pack out an animal with this, yet. I do have about 5 years experience guiding backpacking trips for youth so I know a thing or two about packs, and this one is just a great overall pack.

Love My Metcalf Backpack

The last backpack that I owned was 60+ years ago while enjoying many camping trips in the Boy Scouts. The Metcalf is is a new and great experience for me. I’m getting in shape to go on a 2022 Colorado Elk hunt with my 2 sons and my Metcalf is quickly becoming a great part of my life every day.
