The Metcalf is on the latest Guide Light MT Frame which offers an improved waist belt and a slightly lighter frame. The Guide Light MT Frame also makes the Overload shelf easier to access. The bag itself has also undergone a couple of minor changes to increase functionality. One of these changes is that the full-length side zipper now runs outside of the side pocket making it easier to access gear at the very bottom of your pack. The other change is that now the Metcalf has two open-topped side pockets rather than just one. This is a great improvement because it allows you to carry your rifle or tripod on either side of your pack. The Metcalf is an all-around workhorse and is guaranteed to be a favorite among hunters looking for versatility and all-around utility.

"Going shed hunting & looking forward to the test drive. I wish it was September already."
"I have used this pack for three years and I am now looking for a different pack. This pack is tough and well-made but not well designed. My first hunt with it I packed out a black bear in the rain and it became so squeaky that I sent it back to Mystery Ranch who confirmed the frame noise was one of the worst they have seen and replaced it for free. Pleased with the customer service I then went on a few mule deer hunts and packed out a few animals with it. The pack is comfortable until you load more than 40 pounds in it. The belt is slick and the moment you start to sweat the whole pack sags and stretches out. I am constantly shifting and adjusting the pack to try and make it through the hike. I've taken it hiking several times trying different adjustments while having a 60lb sand bag loaded and same result. It just simply doesn't carry weight well at all. In fact, hiking with a sand bag is making the frame look very worn out. The belt doesn't hold or stay tight. The frame bends and molds around the load you are carrying and stays curved after you take the load off. Also, the bag itself is not very user friendly. The side zip is annoying to open since it is under the side buckles so I would not consider that quick access. This part I know is personal preference but I like getting in my pack without taking my lid off or removing my rifle from the side. I'll give it three stars since the customer service was good and the pack is tough, and it will probably work well for a day pack with the occasion of packing out meat. If you want to carry your camp in your pack or if you pack out meat often look for a different pack."
