Drink clean water on the go by stashing the ultralight MSR TrailShot Microfilter in your pocket or an easy to access spot in your backpack. The tiny water filter is designed so hikers can drink directly from sources along the trail for instant hydration and fill water bladders or bottles with clean water. The one-handed operation filters one liter of water in 60 seconds. Note: 75 pumps will fill a standard-sized Nalgene bottle. The TrailShot is also easy to clean. A few shakes help restore flow rates in the field; no tools required.

"This works really well for situations where the water is just a trickle and can’t even get a bottle into it or larger pumps would be too heavy. I usually use a UV light to clean water. I would recommend carrying a spare filter in case it gets clogged, which is a tradeoff of these smaller, lighter pump filters."
"Used this filter last season for elk. Does a great job, really nice to have when you have nothing but seeps to collect from and cant scoop water. Very tough to filter without it in those situations."

"I’m a ‘5-star review kind of guy’… glass is half-full always, but I felt like this review was important enough to share given it could potentially save some people in the backcountry. Bought in ‘24, first use in CO on a trip was outstanding. Performed perfectly, filtered quickly and packs down super small. Second use this year in MT, and the thing would not work at all. After messing with it for an hour, we resorted to just iodine tablets for our elk wallow water & were fine, but it was definitely not ideal. Not sure what broke, hopefully it’s a fluke, but figured I’d share. Always have redundancies in your kit for water filtration!"
"Needed a pump filter but didn’t want to carry the weight of the larger options so gave this a try. It works well for what it is, but it does take a long time to pump and clogs fairly easy but it got the job done."
"Used recently on a back country mule deer hunt in late August. Expecting little water available, I opted to not bring my big sawyer gravity filter setup. This worked great and was pretty quick. I feel like it’s probably 1 squeeze per oz. I didn’t count but didn’t take long to fill my 46oz GoHunt bottle. Takes up minimal space in my pack which is always a plus. Thanks !"
"lite weight insurance to carry. Ran out of water once and it sucked. Never again, seem to work well, it recommends in the instruction to pair it with purification tabs for water sources with high animal traffic."
