Breakdown
The inReach Explorer+ is a handheld satellite communicator with built-in GPS navigation on a 1.4"W x 1.9"H display. The 100% global Iridium satellite coverage enables 2-way text messaging with any cell phone number or email address from anywhere (satellite subscription required). You don't have to worry about being within the range of a cell tower because this system uses satellite communication. Trigger an interactive SOS to the 24/7 search and rescue monitoring center and text back and forth about the nature of your emergency, and receive a confirmation when help is on the way. A great backcountry hunting peace of mind device. You can also track and share your location with family and friends and can pair with mobile devices using the free Earthmate app for access to downloadable maps, U.S. NOAA charts, color aerial imagery, and more.

inReach Explorer+ device adds preloaded DeLorme TOPO maps with onscreen GPS routing plus a built-in digital compass, barometric altimeter, accelerometer and can also receive weather information. Tough, durable, impact-resistant, and water-rated to IPX7. You can also count on long battery life in every mode of operation (up to 100 hours at 10-minute tracking mode (default); up to 75 hours at 10-minute tracking with 1-second logging; up to 30 days at the 30-minute interval power save mode; and up to 3 years when powered off). Recharge via the standard micro USB power cable or optional in-vehicle 12 V charger. The unit has a built-in 2GB memory and you can add custom maps.

Garmin inReach

I was able to take the InReach into the Colorado backcountry last fall and use it alongside my buddy's inReach mini. The full size is much more user friendly and way easier to navigate through the settings in our experience. My full size was also much more accurate in navigating to the same waypoints that we logged standing side by side. The full size is bigger/heavier than the mini but the added applications and larger screen far outweighed the size and price difference in my opinion. If you're mainly hiking or just spiking out for 2-3 day stints, the mini is likely sufficient. For those extended backcountry hunts, the full size is the way to go. Both are limited in the ability to send messages, thats the way of a satellite communicator, but it sent my pre-set messages with no problem from the mountains peak, down to the lowest most tucked away drainage in some thick timber. The battery life on the full size and mini were awesome, definitely much better than I anticipated. We were off the grid for 10 days and I briefly charged mine once. Overall I was very happy with this purchase and the added security it gave me in the woods if something were to have happened. If you hunt backcountry areas, you need this.

Added safety and convenience

I purchased this mostly for the communication piece and to have a backup GPS when hunting and snowmobiling. I have not had a chance to use it outside of testing it and learning how to use it. Setup was easy and use thus far has been straight forward. I purchased a second one for my dad to give him a little extra freedom when we hunt the backcountry. I did reach out to Garmin on an option that I’d like to see in the future. It would be nice to have the ability to pin the location off all devices you own without the other user having to give there location. IE if you weren’t able to get a response you could at least locate there position from your device. Looking forward to using this to track a future hunting trip. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Garmin InReach

This Garmin is a fantastic piece of technology. I highly recommend this unit to anyone going off the beaten track. I was able to watch the guys during their hunt. 3 old guys with heart problems out in the middle of nowhere, put our minds at rest. GoHunt was fantastic, shipped quick and was wonderful to deal with.

Great Service

The original shipment tracking stalled in the ups system. I contacted gohunt customer service, and they quickly sorted it out and shipped another inreach.
Their great service and contributions to conservation have made me a loyal customer.

I reach explorer+

Bought this for the Gila this year. Used it scouting last week. Easy to use, nice that you can Bluetooth pair to your phone! That made typing messages and adding waypoints much quicker. If I didn’t have one already this would be at the top of my list for backcountry.
