The new 2020 version of the Metcalf takes the previous best-selling Mystery Ranch pack and adds some very functional features making the bag better than it ever was before. First and foremost the Metcalf is now on the Guide Light MT Frame which offers an improved waist belt and a slightly lighter frame. The Guide Light MT Frame also makes the Overload shelf easier to access. The bag itself has also undergone a couple of minor changes to increase functionality. One of these changes is that the full-length side zipper now runs outside of the side pocket making it easier to access gear at the very bottom of your pack. The other change is that now the Metcalf has two open-topped side pockets rather than just one. This is a great improvement because it allows you to carry your rifle or tripod on either side of your pack. The 2020 Metcalf is still the all-around workhorse that its predecessor was and is guaranteed to be a favorite among hunters looking for versatility and all-around utility.

Mystery ranch metcalf

I bought the metcalf from go hunt a couple weeks back. I’m using it for SRT saddle hunting (whitetail deer) day trips in Ohio. I’m super impressed with the quality and how well it carries once it’s fitted. I highly recommend mystery ranch back packs.
Another thing to note is’s customer service. They were quick to respond via email and phone call to answer my questions. Any gear I need in the future I will start with go

Pack it up

Purchased the pack and instantly filled it up to test it out, fits everything and is comfortable.
Can’t wait to take it hunting.

Most Comfortable / Useful to date

I've been using Dana Gleason's packs since college when the company was known as Dana Design. This is my second Mystery Ranch brand and its my favorite of the entire lineage that I've owned. It's comfortable beyond belief and versatile. I Iike that it can be used as a daypack or long haul pack; the incorporated loadout feature :); and the double side pockets for rifles, shooting sticks etc :) :) :). It's simple but not too simple, and everything is just right for me and my uses.

First Hunting Pack

I was surprised to find such a high quality pack from a great brand for such a great price point. I am excited to use it on an archery elk hunt this coming fall. From what I have checked out myself this pack will be great for multiday use.
