A little bit slower

I got this rangefinder to replace my 10 year old Nikon archer max so I could range longer distances since I am getting into rifle hunting a bit more. I compared both side by side and found that the old one provides a faster reading. The Ranger 1800 does have a brighter reticle, even on the lowest setting, which is a nice upgrade since I have had some frustration in the past with my old one during low light conditions. In addition to the brightness on the 1800, I also like the fact that it is more compact, lighter and has the utility clip. The 1800 is accurate and I have been able to get ranges out to 800 yards thus far, although it has had trouble picking up on things from time to time....maybe it just needs to be mounted on a tripod for the longer stuff. Overall I like the product and am happy with my purchase, I just wasn't expecting it to be slower than my dinosaur 'Archer max'. I thought it would be better in all aspects.

Typical vortex quality fast shipping and awesome customer service. can’t ask for more than that. thanks Gohunt

Vortex Ranger is excellent

So far this little guy is amazing. Easy to use, easy to see and just plain fun to have that extra confidence on what you are aiming at. Even proves useful at the range to set up various distances which I did to help my kids practice. The best part is the simplicity. There really is nothing to screw up. The red readout is perfectly clear in all light. You do have to set the brightness, doesn't appear to automatically adjust on light conditions, but whatever. Not worried about it. Doesn't impact the use of it at all. The texture and weight make this easy to hold and carry. Overall clarity is just fine. There is a noticeable filter color, but everything is still obvious and doesn’t impact my concern on recognizing anything. Case is fine. Nothing to write home about. It works and thats all that I care about. Like any new toy, its fun to just play with. We have been zapping everything just to see how far away stuff is. Range depends on the object. This is very true the further away the object is and the 6X magnification helps. However, for all distances I am shooting at (600 yards and less) I have had zero issues. Great buy, I considered other reviews and the warranty before the purchase. I am very happy and have no regrets.
